Mixed Media Fiber work on Board | 8” x 10” x 2” deep | 2016
Brian Andrew Whiteley dives headfirst into the grotesque and the absurd with this mixed media piece, a classic from his renowned "Clown Sculptures" series.
“Regan: the Exorcist Clown” in the act of vomiting. Made in homage to the classic horror film The Exorcist (1973), the piece directly references the infamous moment when Regan unleashes green vomit onto the priest. By reimagining this cinematic shock through the figure of a clown, Whiteley merges horror with absurdity, transforming terror into satire.
The layered use of fiber and mixed media heightens the work’s tactile presence, giving physical form to the grotesque humor at its core. Both unsettling and strangely comical, “Regan: the Exorcist Clown” reflects Whiteley’s ongoing exploration of fear, innocence, and the way popular culture embeds itself in our collective memory.
